Pushing to Keep British Columbia Green
Here at the Regent we are proud to have a number of green initiatives that we carry out on a daily basis, and it’s an effort that our city shares. Despite the fact that Victoria is known as garden city, the city is working hard to keep green in a different sense, and is asking the province to ban disposable plastic packaging.
Single-use plastic bags were officially banned on July 1, meaning that once current stock runs out, customers either need to carry their own bags or purchase a paper bag. While we’re proud our city has taken this step to minimize the use of plastic, Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps says it should extend to any plastic packaging, saying: “Unrestricted use of disposable plastic packaging is inconsistent with the values of British Columbia residents.”
With views of both the ocean and mountains from our suites, the need to protect our environment couldn’t be more important for continued enjoyment of our surroundings.
