See Victoria Light Up for the Holidays

Despite being nicknamed “Garden City,” Victoria is beautiful year-round, regardless of whether our gardens are in full bloom or not. The city’s historic downtown, the coastline enclosing us on three sides, the mountains beyond… you get the picture!

But come the winter holidays something extraordinary happens around Victoria: we get lit up! Not only are the parliament buildings decorated in holiday lights, but walk the streets of downtown and you’ll find them lit and decorated too. Butchart Gardens puts on a remarkable “12 Days of Christmas” holiday light display, complete with carolers!

It’s not just the city and businesses that take it seriously though, it’s the residents, too. Every year the local Times Colonist newspaper puts out a map so that you can tour the streets that are exceptionally decorated. So if you’re thinking of a getaway or stay-cation in Victoria, make sure you add a lights tour to your activity list.
