Tourists flock to Victoria for a multitude of reasons \u2013 the eclectic restaurants, the mild temperatures, the beautiful West Coast scenery. However, any local will tell you that one of the best parts of island living is the beaches. With the beautiful Salish Sea as a backdrop, our beaches can be wild, with roaring waves and splashing surf, or gentle and relaxing.<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s a limited list of some of our favourite local beaches.<\/p>\n
1. Arbutus Cove<\/p>\n
Arbutus Cove is a somewhat random but certainly appropriate addition to this list. Located in Victoria\u2019s Gordon Head neighbourhood, it\u2019s an escape from busy downtown life. Wander down the coastal stairs to an open, rocky beach, and explore!<\/p>\n
2. Willows Beach<\/p>\n
Ideal for family beach days or singles looking for a place to read their favourite novel, Willows Beach is located in the upscale Oak Bay neighbourhood. This beach attracts everyone, from college kids to retired couples, with its expansive stretch of sand and stunning coastal views.<\/p>\n
3. Gonzales Beach<\/p>\n
Protected from the rough surf, Gonzales Beach is a perfect crescent located in the Fairfield neighbourhood. In the summer, expect lots of music and beach games \u2013 this is one of the top places for groups of friends to soak up the sun! Once the summer\u2019s passed, expect a peaceful, quiet place to stretch your legs or watch the sea.<\/p>\n
4. Dallas Road<\/p>\n
Okay, so maybe this isn\u2019t exactly one beach \u2013 but it would be impossible to choose the best beach along Dallas Road. This scenic stretch offers countless rocky beaches with stunning views of the Juan de Fuca Strait. Some of the best sections of beach are located in between the Ogden Point Breakwater and Cook St \u2013 take a walk and see what you can discover!<\/p>\n
5. Island View Beach<\/p>\n
As your visit to Victoria comes to a close, make sure you hit up Island View Beach on your way back to the ferries. Located only a short drive from Swartz Bay Terminal, Island View offers stunning views of Haro Strait, James Island, and Mount Baker.
