The Lowest Tides in Years Hitting Victoria’s Coast

Did you catch the low tides last week? All around the island and here in Victoria the lowest tides in decades exposed normally hidden seashore. Beaches enjoyed large stretches of sand, boats were suddenly ashore, and just outside the Regent parts of the Inner Harbour were out in plain view!

This rare occurrence is all thanks to the moon. The moon and sun aligned creating a strong gravitational pull, not to mention that the moon was also at the closest point of its orbit.

If you didn’t get to see it, extreme low tides are expected again around noon on July 13th and August 11th. To read more about it and see images of the low tide around Victoria, click here.
